Frequently asked questions

Getting an account, passwords, passkeys and how your data is used.

Updated 6 November 2026

How do I get a Merisaukko ID? #

For now, by invitation only. Ask for one at [email protected]. The invitation link is valid for 7 days.

Do I need separate accounts for each service? #

No. Your Merisaukko ID signs you in to every Merisaukko service, and two-step verification and passkeys work in all of them.

What is a passkey, and should I use one? #

A passkey signs you in with your fingerprint, face or device PIN without a password. It's the safest option because it can't be phished. See Two-step verification and passkeys.

Did someone else get my password? #

Check your account's activity. If you see a sign-in you don't recognise, change your password: that signs out every other device. Then turn on two-step verification.

Will Merisaukko ever ask for my password? #

Never by email, phone or message. Only enter your password at id.merisaukko.fi.

What do services receive about me? #

A permanent identifier, your email address, display name, username and language. See What is a Merisaukko ID?

How do I delete my data? #

From one service or your whole Merisaukko ID; see Deleting data and privacy.
