Domains and members

Creating a domain, inviting members, groups and transferring ownership.

Updated 5 November 2026

A domain is a shared space, such as a home or a cottage. Each domain has its own items, stock, members and apps.

Domain members

New domain #

  1. Open Domains from the menu and choose New domain.
  2. Give it a name (e.g. Cottage) and optionally a description.
  3. Choose apps and groups. You can change them later.
  4. Invite members now or later.

You become the domain's owner, who always has all permissions.

Inviting a member #

  1. Open Domain settings and the Members tab.
  2. Under Invite a member, enter the person's username, identifier or verified email address and pick a group.
  3. Choose Send invitation.

Everyone finds their username and identifier on their My account page.

The invitation appears in their Ohjuri under Domains → Domain invitations, where they accept or decline it. You can withdraw a pending invitation from the member list with Cancel invitation.

The person needs a Merisaukko ID and must have signed in to Ohjuri once. For now, new Merisaukko IDs can only be created by invitation.

Groups and permissions #

A member's permissions come from their groups: Administrators, Users and Viewers are built in, and you can create your own on the Groups tab. Extra permissions for a single member are set from the cog in the member list.

Transferring ownership #

A domain always has one owner. Ownership can be transferred to another member with the button Transfer ownership to this member in the member list. This is needed, for example, before the owner can delete their Ohjuri account.

Deleting a domain #

Only an empty domain can be deleted: remove its items and tasks first. Delete it under Domain settings → Deleting the domain; it is removed for all members.
